LockCity Review!

Hey Everyone!!! Sorry I have been MIA for the past few days. Because of the situation with my graduate school, I have been slammed with work. Basically, I have been forced into the position of trying to cram 5 weeks worth of work into 2 weeks. Something which I HOPE my program will take into consideration when they grade my work.

Anyway, so while I do have a few new pieces, I still need to take pics, so I will do a longer SPS next week, as well as hopefully have some stuff to show this week on Wednesday.

In the meantime, let me talk about LockCity. This is the second time I have done this con. Last year, it was down the road from where I live, but this year, it was about an hour away, more north in CT. Now, I honestly can't say whether that's good or bad, because I did not find out the attendance. I do hope it won't go further north, because then it might be hard for me to travel there. I will say that for a small con, on it's third year, it's still one I would continue to go back to. I did like my spot this year--last year, the way it was set up, my booth was unfortunately in a corner, so I got passed over a bit, though I did have a taller display. But location in a vendor hall is always something that you, as a vendor, have to work with, and never the fault of the con.

I had a great table neighbor, one of the cosplayers, who was a total sweetheart. Since this year I was soloing, due to the dissolution of the old business between myself and my former partner, I was happy to be next to someone who was very flexible to watch my table if I needed to use the restroom. This is always an upside of smaller cons, I believe--there seems to be instant camaraderie among the sellers.

I tried a new set-up for this con, in order to try and see about maximizing the view of my figurines, as well as showing off all my prints to their advantage. While it was a bit short in the middle (I kept having to bend down to put my head through), I think this new design was a success. I was able to display almost all my prints, and all my figurines all at the same time. It got a lot of attention, and I know I broke even if not getting a little bit of profit. If the next con allows it, though, I am going to raise up the middle, and if the con has bigger tables, then I might widen it one more in the middle. But for this go around, I am quite happy!

I sold about 2 of my smaller prints, 3 pieces of jewelry (both of those are low numbers for me) and at least 6 figurines. Overall, a good day!

SPS, LockCity!

Another Sunday, and a lot to update on! I have been so preoccupied with issues coming from my graduate school with regards to my summer internship, that I have been forgetting to post. Finally, though, things are sorted out and I have also been working my rear off in order to make sure I can get as many customs done before I am supposed to start my internship tomorrow. I am not sure how it will affect my crafting time, but at least I will finally be able to do this part of my graduate program. Seriously, this has been giving me nothing but trouble for the past few weeks, to the point where I have debated on suing the school. It's such a long story, I am not going to try and get into it.

In the meantime, a reminder! If you are not able to attend some of the bigger cons that are coming up in the next few weeks, and are local, come check me out at Lock City Anime and Comic Con! I will be vending at this wonderful one-day con, which has a great staff who works hard to get this con out there.

If you want to go, check it out here: LockCity Anime and Comic Con

Now, onto other stuff. So, I have been doing my best to branch out from ponies in order to try and make myself more versatile and appeal to other cons. To that end, here's what I have been working on lately:

So, in keeping with trying to branch out, since my next con is meant to be Anime and Comic, I've been doing a lot more Pokemon, specifically Eevee and Eevolutions. Eevee seems to be pretty popular, and I have an easy time doing them, so I though, why not.

I also decided to try and make another mini type superhero figurine using an Equestria Girl mini figurine. I decided to try and make a Spider-Gwen, and I think she looks pretty cool. I am particularly proud of the detail work, especially on the back!

However, I have not forgotten my roots in customizing. In keeping with that, I have definitely been making a lot of MLP related items. These are the latest, and I am hoping to do more.

SPS and More

So! I wanted to post about the army as well as show off a few new pieces that I have been working on. Let's start with the army:

I'm currently at 99 right now. In the picture, it shows 98 out of the 99, because my BIG Flutterbat doesn't fit on this display. That one is currently in my bedroom on another display case. But, that Flutterbat was made by the incredible White Dove, which I will post about another day. I think until I get number #100, I am going to show off a few other of my Flutters and promo the heck out of some of these artists. Why? Because they work hard and deserve it.

Now granted, not all of the ones in this collection are customs. Many of these are the official toys. I would say this is about equal in terms of what is custom and what is not. I'd say that's a good mix.

Now, onto some of my new pieces. So first up, is a simpler piece I did, making an Ashi doll from the newest season of the TV show, "Samurai Jack." Now, granted this show ended a while ago, but that doesn't mean I can't do something epic. I actually saw on Twitter that Tara Strong was wondering why no one has done an Ashi doll, and I thought, 'Why don't I do one?' So I did.

So my Ashi doll is based on when she turned good, after struggling with trying to defeat Jack, when she looks like this:

Now, I know that mine is not exactly like the Ashi above, and that's fine. Personally, I like giving my dolls my own little spin.

Another doll I just finished was this Pink Diamond one from 'Steven Universe.' Now, I was struggling with this one for some time, on how to make her just right. And while I am not disappointed with the results, I am a bit annoyed that I could not get the face color the same as the body color. That's because I sprayed the body with Krylon spray paint, and the face I had to paint by hand and I couldn't find the exact same color as the spray paint. So I went with the closest thing possible. I still this she came out alright.

So, here's what Pink Diamond looks like:

And here's my result:

I did want to make her somewhat of a warrior, which is why she has the sword, and I wanted to make the stand look a little like a Gem homeworld, so I hope I achieved that look in a sense.

Lastly, I made a chibi-style Storm from X-Men. And I went old-school style with this one, and even tried to pay homage to sort of comic book type style with the hair. I even gave her some crystals in her eyes to make it seem like she's getting ready to call up a storm.

Happy Fluttershy Friday! I'M MOVING!!! (Also, #154, 155, 156, and 157!!!)

OK, so first and foremost, SO SORRY for not a lot of posts. Creative burnout is real, as well as some BIG news... I AM MOVING INTO MY OWN H...
